Mothers Day

In my youth, I was raised Catholic, and later, when I married my first wife, I became a Southern Baptist. Not long thereafter, I attended a church gathering on Mother’s Day.

The pastor made sure that every mother in attendance received a beautiful single red rose as a symbol of respect and reverence for what a mother truly represents. There was a special ceremony dedicated to celebrating and honoring mothers on Mother’s Day.

If you’re not a mother, or if you are a male, imagine what it’s like to hold a life within you for nine months. Being a male myself, it’s difficult for me to imagine the preciousness of that gift, although when my wife was pregnant, she didn’t always think it was such a gift!

But to hold that life within you, knowing that you’re going to bring forth a beautiful, sacred boy or girl, is nothing short of amazing. Imagine that feeling of protectiveness you have as a mother for your child. That love and protectiveness never really end.

I can tell you that years ago, while I was driving my car to an event, my mom, who at that time was 97, was chatting with me on the phone. Mind you, I called my mother every day, sometimes twice a day. Whether I was at home in San Diego, in Tokyo, or in Canada, it didn’t matter.

So, here I was driving my car, and my mother asked, “Do you have very far to go?”

I responded that I had about 12 miles left.

She said, “Oh honey, that’s just so far. Be really careful!”

And I responded, “Mom, I’m 62 years old!”

You see, it didn’t matter how old I was. If you’re a mother, you’re always going to look after your children, no matter their age. That love is not related to how many years old you are as her child.

That’s why it’s so important for us not to lose sight of the fact that our mothers, no matter how old we are, are always thinking about us and looking after us. Every Mother’s Day, make a special effort to honor the mothers in your life, whether they are your mother, grandmother, daughters, or other important maternal figures.

You can return some of the love that your mother so selflessly gave to you throughout your upbringing and even into adulthood. Mother’s Day gives us a meaningful opportunity to pause, express our gratitude, and show our mothers how deeply they are appreciated.

If you’ve read any of my writings, you know a little about the sacred feminine and how we’re living in this golden age of inner transformation, where we’re learning how to use the tools of the heart.

So go into that beautiful heart space within yourself. Take the time this Mother’s Day to honor your mother, celebrate the fact that she is your mother, and do something that genuinely demonstrates your love for her.

Blessings,
