Alignment to the Seasons

Richard JelusichBlog

There are rhythms and cycles to our cosmos and all creation, a certain sublime interaction with the natural flow of the mechanics of our universe of the seen and unseen.

We are living in an age where the unseen (spiritual or subtle energies) are revealed through both the teachings of spiritually realized men and women and the discoveries of science.  This unseen world is and has been always with us.  Interestingly, certain unseen forces that have always been with us have only recently been discovered.

For instance, electricity, magnetism and gravity have only been discovered about 400 years ago, but no one has ever seen these forces.  When you see lightning, that is the effect of electricity producing visible light but not the electricity.  We can observe their effects, even plan our lives around their existence.

It is the same with the subtle energies that affect the rhythms and cycles of the cosmos and our Earth, especially the seasons.

At the publishing of this blog, we are approaching the autumnal equinox (September 31), that time of the year when the sun on its northward journey passes over the equator.  This is the moment when there are equal hours of day and night.  And, as the sun passes further north towards the December Solstice (Winter in the northern hemisphere, Summer in the southern hemisphere) where we in the north experience the shortest amount of daylight.

You and I are affected by the seasons, beyond just the amount of light for daylight and evening, beyond the magnetic influences of our mother Earth, beyond the gravitational effects that hold us on this planet.  There are subtle energies beyond the mechanics of the seasons.

Ancient cultures around our planet embraced the changing of the seasons, not just for the physical manifestations of the seasons, but for the energies of consciousness behind these seasons.  They would attune themselves and their collective to the deeper understanding in their spiritual nature of what the seasons represented.

  • Fall – a time when the completion (leaves) have done their work and no longer needed and would then fall away.  Letting go of what is not needed in your life.
  • Winter – a time of going within, conserving energy, contemplation, stillness and quieting the mind.
  • Spring – a time of bursting forth with renewal of vigor and life where the inspirations of the inner voyage of the pregnant seeds of winter can now sprout in abundance.
  • Summer – the fruiting of our endeavors, feeling the fullness of our inner spiritual power and infinite possibilities now being manifested.

Integral Health embodies our energetic intimate relationship with the Earth and her seasons.  Every molecule in your body somehow first came from Mother Earth and you are deeply affected by her physical manifestations but also her subtle energies!  The ancients knew this well and would endeavor to nest their awareness in the natural flow of these energies.

As we align ourselves to these seasons, let us get into that vibration or flow of what that season represents in the living of our lives.  In your meditations and living, feel the inner knower within you aligning to that natural flow and rhythm.  Sciences such as astrology, Ayurveda and more encourage us not only to respect these subtle forces but increase our awareness of the interconnectedness of all of that which is creation and that which is beyond creation.
