Spring Equinox

Richard JelusichBlog

The Spring Equinox is that time in March when the sun is directly at Meridian height over the equator dividing equal parts of night and day and signals in the northern hemisphere the sun’s further movement northward towards greater amounts of light and growth whether it be plants, animals or you and I. To spring forth, as it were, to new growth and abundance.

Where we are located here at the Bamboo Garden Wellness Center in Encinitas is right next to the boundary between Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe where a little bridge covers the stream. And I noticed just this week the din of countless numbers of frogs emerging, singing their ritual of awakening to the coming of spring.

All nature everywhere seems to know about the coming and going of earth’s seasons. It is you and I because these days we are raised and the artificiality of concrete, lighting, electronics that this can be a great distraction from the natural harmonics and rhythms that our earth provides even on a daily basis.

Ancient cultures around the planet celebrated through their edifices whether they be stone circles, pyramids or other such structures these cycles and rhythms.

On March 20th the time of our spring equinox in the northern hemisphere the pyramid at Chichen Itza in southern Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula will be illuminated in the late afternoon hours by the sun shining across its nine-step pyramid to create seven patterns of light and six patterns of shadow making a significant #13 which was very holy to the Mayans. This is an illusion to the mythical serpent Kukulkan who is made visible by these patterns of light and dark along the staircase of the pyramid represents the kundalini energy that is connecting and merging the physical and the non-physical of creation and by extension the merging of our physical and non-physical bodies.

I have been to Chichen Itza during the time of the spring equinox and as many as 50,000 people will come to observe this phenomenon of light and shadow. In fact, many times since 2005 I have taken people on journeys to the land of the Maya to understand this ancient cultures advance awareness of consciousness, cycles, and rhythms of time and nature show.
That the ancient cultures new to represent the importance of these cycles of the seasons is a reminder to you and I to embrace the natural frequencies of both our mother earth but also those that exist within our integral health. That is our mind, body, and spirit. This is why it’s so important to embrace nature when we are so inured in the artificiality of everyday technological life.

Such practices as meditation, yoga and engaging in deliberate ceremony to generate the reverence and respect for the fact that every molecule in our bodies somehow comes from our mother earth just like you and I came initially from our mothers.

This spring equinox offer to yourself the opportunity to attune to these natural frequencies of our planet and those of your bodies. Pray, meditate, do ceremony. In this way you achieve a much more natural and organic state of being as opposed to living in the cacophony of everyday life in the modern world.
