Our Sun (at the Winter Solstice) is at its furthest journey to Earth’s southern hemisphere (Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere). This three-day event marks a time when the sun seems to “stand still” before embarking on its journey northward.
Some religions mark this as a three-day event when the “Christ” (the messenger) is about to be resurrected to come forth and shine again. The return of the sun marks the equal regularity of our solar light increasing and decreasing yearly, and we are subject on many levels of our being to the timings, rhythms and cycles of solar, planetary and cosmic events.
It would be a sad injustice to think that the seasons, cycles, movement of the sun and more are not a part of our being. We are very much connected, and today we benefit from the teachings of Integral Health and awakened practitioners who understand these cycles and how you and I may be affected.
My sister loves to walk her dog in the afternoons. She enjoys the sunlight that is so abundant in the summer months. This time of year, sunset is so early, she doesn’t really enjoy walking her dog in the dark. Every year, when it is Winter Solstice, I tell her “Hey, it’s the first day of Summer!” to indicate that the sun is returning northward, and she can anticipate more daylight! It is the promise of return of the light.
We look forward to the return of the sun to enjoy the longer days. We can count on the equal regularity of solar and cosmic events, as we are tied to all the rhythms and fluctuations of nature. Teachings of mind-body-spirit in Integral Health are of the flow with the energies or nature, and we are slowly moving away from a subject/object opposition type of thinking where we must “conquer” nature. Today, we are experiencing a mass dawning of an inner realization of this natural flow. You can tell by the preponderance of focus on ecology, preservation of resources, and conservation of our interactions with the minerals, plants, animals and nature spirits. Yes, nature spirits are real, and we are benefitting greatly from realizing their existence and interaction with all life. That also, is a return of the inner sun to a spiritual awakening of our true being!
Let us mark this day as the return of the sun, the outer and inner light that illuminates our mind and heart and fills us with the promise of renewal. It is in our nature to renew ourselves, to reveal the coming forth of the inner light that is our true nature. There is an ebb and flow to all things, both material and that which is beyond the material.
Celebrate that the sun returns in all of us, a consistent reminder that gives comfort and resolve to our being. We affirm in ourselves the ever-renewing qualities of our lives and bless the winter solstice as an exclamation point to focus our inner intent and self-empowerment. Allow the sun within yourself to return again and again with the promise of ever-increasing light.
