Christmas Past

Richard JelusichBlog

As I write this today is Christmas Day and many of you are celebrating in various traditions the solstice that I wrote about in just the last blog. For me it is a time of extending that deep love that I have to offer and showing it in the form of the gathering of family friends, loved ones and the sharing of presence that are a symbol of our love for one another.

For me there’s quite a build up to this season as I just love what Christmas represents and so I’m a little bit of a Christmas nut. I love to decorate and I start early as soon as my wife will let me perhaps the day after Thanksgiving I start putting up the Christmas lights. And while you cannot quite see my house from outer space yet I’m working on it!

I love the lights and the decorations and to me they’re symbols of joy and happiness and the abundance that we share. One part of it is I feel that the love that bubbles up from deep within us is limitless because we know that love cannot be measured nor quantified. I know that we all have our different love languages and I know that we show our love in many many ways.

The solstice has just passed and of course we all know that the sun is marking its beginning of its return towards the northern hemisphere where the days will be getting longer but more importantly it is emblematic of the return of the sun. The winter solstice has been celebrated by countless cultures throughout history with varying degrees of the deeper understanding of what it really represents.

I like to think this time of year is the time when I can amplify that love that I have by putting up the Christmas lights and by wearing hats that light up with different colored lights when I go to the store or driving around with my wife. As I said today is Christmas Day so my children and my grandchildren have opened their presence and we’ve had our amazing meals together and I am in that reflective space of such gratitude.

Let this be a time where you can reach deep inside that heart space of yourself and let it flow with an overflowing of love of how best you can show that love to others whether you’re in service work to humanity or no matter your endeavor. What more could you do to express the profundity of love that you have in your heart to others?

And now that Christmas is passing let us also carry that love and that abundance of the truth of our spiritual nature forward as we embark upon a new year where new promises and renewals of spirit can be a daily lived experience.

This particular Christmas has also been very touching for me as I celebrate the 10th Christmas with my wife and being surrounded by my children and my grandchildren as I’ve come to an even deeper place of appreciation for them being in my life.

Can you reach deeply into that place within your heart and at the same time allow yourself to receive a part of that love that you offer to others by making yourself vulnerable to be loved as you are loving? It is part of our vulnerability to be loved that sometimes really scares us and yet if we don’t open our hearts how will we ever know how deeply we can feel and thus how deeply we can express love?

Go forth as the new year approaches and resolve to be vulnerable to that perfect heart space within you and to let it shine.

Blessings,
